Hanging Out

So, in my attempt to keep our family green AND to keep a little more 'green' in our bank account (WOW, that was cheesy), my aunt surprised me with a gift I have been wanting for a LONG time:

A clothes line!!!

I really love it! Now, with Oregon weather, it's a little fickle to hang out clothes to dry, for obvious reasons.

But, the rain gives me an excuse not to do laundry, right??

I'm still learning the ins and outs, but it's going really well. My husband is slightly less than thrilled; he thinks it makes the clothes too stiff. I've looked online to find some tips on keeping the clothes softer and am trying to balance it out.

Kalaya LOVES it. She loves to 'help' Mommy with the clothes pins, which means dumping the clothes pins out (pictured below) and clipping all of them to the bottom of various items on the line.

In a way, it makes me feel very connected to the women of my past. My grandmother had a clothes line installed in her yard, at her house of over 50 years. (and that thing is there FOREVER, it is very solidly stuck in cement in the ground!!) I remember seeing our laundry on the line when we would visit. I especially think of her and others when I hang little baby clothes and diapers on the line; about how they too were young and just starting out at one point and how hanging out clean clothes was just one thing they did to help with their newly started family.

If you put the towels in the dryer for just a few minutes to "fluff" them and then hang them out....they are not nearly as "board" stiff! But....nothing beats the smell of "line hung" clothes! (especially sheets!)

Okay, we've tried that, but at the END of the drying. I'll try your way! Hi Juliann's mom!! : ) And yes, they do smell great!!

Let me know if you figure out some tips for getting the stiffness out. Since we're in Cali I've been thinking it would be nice to hang dry the laundry, but I also hate the stiffness it gives the clothes...especially jeans and towels!

LOVE it! We currently have a pretty ghetto set up of a clothesline (per my request), but we had an awesome one (like yours) growing up and I've looked and can't find them! Where did you get yours?

My aunt got it on Amazon

I just got one too! Great for the diapers and baby clothes. Mine is on our porch and goes on to an old shed...with a pully so I don't have to leave the porch! So far so good. I think I want another one off the other side of the house!

We have one, too. I need to start using it every time. Ours is made from metal pipes and is pretty much permanent. I love them, although sometimes I get lazy and use the dryer. New goal to use it every time!
