To my beautiful Kalaya,Well, you are one year old! How time flies! This has been such a wonderful and fun year! I am so blessed to be your mother. Many people know that they were born to be artists, dancers, writers, athletes, and inventors. I know that I was born to be your mommy.
I have always wanted to be a mommy. Now that you're in my life, I knew that I always wanted to be YOUR mommy. I love every moment of raising and taking care of you. I have loved, cherished and treasured every moment we've had together in your first year of life. We've never been apart for more than a couple of hours and I wouldn't have had it any other way. You have slept next to me since the night you were born, which has been a joy. Even on those growth spurt or teething nights when you were up every 45 minutes to nurse, it has been so special, because Mommy knew that it wasn't going to last very long and some day she would look back and miss being able to cuddle you, rock you and comfort you.
You have grown so much this year! You are crawling every where and exploring new things! You have learned so much! I love every stage of your life, but some times it's hard for me to believe you're no longer the little lump with the chubby cheeks who was happiest cuddled up on Daddy or Mommy's chest. You are becoming your own person and discovering who you are; it's amazing to watch! Already we are learning one of the hardest parts of being parents; how to let you go! You're learning independence and are determined to do so many things yourself. Luckily, you still need Mommy and Daddy a lot and we are ALWAYS here to help you however we can! We are so blessed to have you in our lives and we can't wait to see where life takes us next. We love you more than we can ever put into words and we're so grateful to God that He has blessed us with such a healthy, wonderful, beautiful baby. You are the joy of my life.

Oh, my, that post is so wonderful and I pray someday Kalaya will read it -- what a lucky little girl she is to have you and Nelson as parents. I wish I was closer to watch all three of you as you grow and change and become more your own person(s) - as a baby/little girl, as a Mom, Dad, Woman, Man, Couple, Family. It's a joy to watch from afar though. I just wish your Grandma and Grandpa could meet Kalaya and see what's happened, so beautifully to their Granddaughter and her spouse. I guess they are watching.....
So before I get more maudlin I'll close and say, I am so proud of you and Nelson and know that the world is a better place because of how ye are growing into adulthood and parenthood, and how the world is a better place because of that little chubby-cheeked bundle of Kalaya. Happy Birthday, Kalaya!
