Top 5 Friday: The Royal Wedding

I have been waiting and waiting for the Royal Wedding, ever since the engagement was announced last November. And dreading it too. I've been in love with William for longer than I can remember. But, that's a story for another blog.

I didn't even bother going to bed last night, I knew I was too excited. I started watching BBC at midnight and then shuffling around between the local networks to see all the action. And, it was absolutely one hundred percent worth how tired I feel today. It was absolutely perfect, a true fairy tale wedding. Every single second of it was exquisite. Here are my Top 5 favorite moments of the big day:

#5 The Vows

#4 The ride away from Buckingham Palace

#3 William whispers to Kate how beautiful she looks

#2 Tied: Kate and William each emerging from their cars and seeing them for the first time

#1 The Second Kiss

(VERY CLOSE) Runners Up:

The carriage ride

The First Kiss

Harry whispering to William as he catches a glimpse of Kate

The fabulous hats

Top 5 Friday: Earth Day

Today, here are the Top 5 ways we strive to be green in the Sigrah household, in honor of one of my favorite holidays; EARTH DAY!!!

1. Recycle

One of the things I love more than anything about the Northwest is that it is weird if people DON'T recycle. It is a way of life here. From the time we're in pre-school, we're exposed to those beautiful blue bins for paper and how to separate out cans, bottles, cardboard, tin, glass, plastic and the oh-so-many more things that can be recycled. When I see people put paper, cans or anything that can be recycled in the trash, it literally hurts my heart. It is SO WASTEFUL not to recycle. We use the trash cans such a small amount that we only end up emptying for smell, not because they're full. We only have to have the trash taken every other week and could easily get away with only once a month, but our company doesn't offer that. However, the recycling bin (which is twice as big as the garbage can) is FULL every week!

2. If there's a reusable version, rather than disposable, we try to use it instead!
(this is a cloth diaper, incase you haven't seen the type we use)
In our house, this includes (but is not limited to): cloth diapers, homemade wipes, cloth towels, real dishes, table cloths, grocery bags, lunch bags, tupperware instead of baggies, wash cloths, containers that held other items previously (ex, sour cream container reused to store leftovers), cups, silverware, YOU NAME IT!

3. Buying Organic
After researching so much about how food is raised and processed in our country and world, it only makes sense to buy organic as much as possible. I want to go to local farms to be even more green and start buying more food that way. This saves so much in so many ways.

4. Breastfeeding
It may not seem like it, but nursing is so green!! It eliminates or greatly reduces bottles, formula, raising cows for milk (and ALL that goes along with that), chemicals in so many of the processes for getting these things, the gas, the materials, etc, etc, etc. AND it's kept my child healthy and not having to go to the doctor as much to help with THAT part of being green!

5. Eating meat once a week or less

I wish this could say vegetarian. Or vegan honestly. But, I don't think our family will ever quite be either. The way meat is raised, processed and shipped is awful for our planet. There are so many ways that the meat and poultry industries could improve this, but it's taking a looooong time to get there. We are trying to help a little by eating less meat than the average American.

Runners up: washing almost all of our loads in cold water, using natural cleaning products, halogen light bulbs, etc.

Ways that I want to improve on green living (once we're in our own house): a clothes line, start composting again, buying most of our produce, eggs and meat from local, organic farmers, growing our own garden, raising chickens (some day....), using Lunapads, driving even less, and so many more!!

Top 5 Friday: The Original 5

One of my favorite bloggers and one of my best friends (since we were 8) from growing up does a fun post every Friday about her favorites. I love the idea, so I decided to post some as well, but with a different angle. I'm going to make it a top 5 list of different things each week.

"My Top 5" has been a topic of conversation ever since a certain episode of Friends, which is possibly my favorite show EVER. In the episode, Ross and Rachel (who are dating. Actually, if I have to explain this to you, maybe we shouldn't be friends..... : ) decide to have a list of 5 celebrities they are allowed to cheat on the other with, no questions asked. Nelson and I have discussed this over the years and here are my (current)

Top 5 Celebrities I'm Permitted to Cheat With:

#1: Prince William
Never ever EVER has my number one changed. I have been pining away for Prince William for as long as I can remember. I am going to cry at the wedding in 14 days. There will be an extensive post in honor of him as that day approaches. What is not to love? Charming, dignified, classy, handsome, water polo/polo player, humble....I will go on and on later.

# 2: Justin Timberlake
It is ridiculous that God made this man so talented in so many ways and left the rest of us, well, not. The man is gorgeous, can sing, can dance, is funny and a good actor. Any time I think I want to move him down the list, I listen to his amazing voice and fall for him all over again. I've loved him since his first Disney concert special (can't believe I found this! he's so little!!) and he looked like this: (still love those curls!)

# 3: Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock
He is just HOT. And handsome. And RIPPED. 'nuff said.

# 4 Edward Cullen
Yes, thank you, I am aware of the fact that he is a fictional character. And yes, the man who plays him (Robert Pattinson if you live under a rock) is quite nice, but Edward is Edward! If you've read the Twilight series, this needs no further explanation. Let's just say he's pretty much the most romantic, devoted, sexy, husband ever, willing to sacrifice anything to be with the woman he loves.

#5 Zac Efron
He is a few years younger than me, so I used to hide this fact, but I started smittin' on him after seeing Hairspray, because he's totally cute and charming in that movie:
I am no longer ashamed, because LOOK at this man, there is no boy there any more!!
