These last few days have been long and the nights as well. Nothing unbearable, just tiring. Kalaya had her 12 month dose (and last I believe, thank goodness!) of her Dtap vaccine. We have been spreading vaccines out so that she only gets one at a time. I think 5 at once (which is what the 12 month was supposed to be!!) is too much for any body, young or old.
This was the first time that Kalaya has had a shot and you can tell she remembers what happens there and what the shot was. The second we walked back into the room at the nurses station, she immediately started crying. When she saw the shot, she started SCREAMING like I've never seen her before. She knew exactly what was about to happen. I had to hold her on my lap. When they stuck her with the needle, she made a heartbreaking noise and sobbed, trying to wrench away. I've had that shot and it HURTS.
Then, Saturday night, she felt a little warm and was acting tired. Sunday afternoon, she felt HOT. Taking her temperature revealed a fever of 102.6. GREAT, since we had spent the morning in the church nursery. Since she had no other symptoms what-so-ever, (and never did) we assumed that it was a reaction to the vaccine, since our paperwork said that fever was a common reaction for 1 in 4 kids, we didn't panic. Children's Motrin brought it down. It lasted about 3 days and has been gone for 2. She's still more tired than usual, but her appetite seems to be better.
She is definitely more clingy when she's not feeling well and wakes up at night to nurse, as well as nursing more throughout the day. I am so, so, SO thankful that she is still nursing. She was refusing all other food and drinks that we offered her. I know that she was getting fluids and nutrients from nursing and that is a HUGE relief to me. Otherwise I'd be freaking out that she was getting dehydrated or something. I enjoy the clingyness (is that a word??), because it means more cuddles and snuggle time. The middle of the night wake up is a surprise initially, but she is right next to me and it only takes a couple of minutes for her to go back to sleep.
To top everything else off, we're pretty sure the poor kid is teething again. Don't we get a break yet?! Teeth #13 and 14 are canines, which I've read are the most painful. Poor kid! : (

Hang in there, Kalaya, life will be good again - this growing up business can be a doggone nuisance at times - kinda the same with growing old!
